Community Outreach

We love going out into the community to start the conversation about mental health at various community events. We consider it an honor and a privilege to meet so many amazing people from all walks of life and simply offer the opportunity for others to feel seen, heard and validated. Our table is a safe space for people to share their stories with us and know they are not alone in their struggles. It is also an opportunity for us to learn from each other.

Over the years, we’ve shared many hugs and tears as we’ve watched countless lives be positively impacted from this simple gift of listening and holding space for others. These heartfelt experiences inspire us to create even more educational materials to help others care for their mental health.

Outreach Services

  • Education and Awareness Tables: We attend a wide variety of community events, mental health fairs, and conventions that celebrate fandom.
Fun Fact: Fandom is our favorite audience to talk to!
  • Resource Cards and Educational Materials: We’ve created several resources to help support our educators, mental health professionals, community and public service professionals.

Direct Services

  • Classes, Workshops and Presentations: Curriculum that teaches How to Build a Foundation that Supports a Healthy You at home, at work, at school, and at play. Topics include: proactive parenting, supporting someone whose struggling, building resilience and so much more.
  • Battle Buddies: Our messengers for quality mental health. As a stuffed animal, they provide comfort and calm during a difficult day. Collectively, they are known as the AKF Squad and help demonstrate healthy coping skills and mental well-being.
  • Comfort Kits: Include a Battle Buddy, mental health coloring book, and other items that engage and equip youth (in hospitals, schools or counseling offices) with encouragement, healthy coping skills and resources.
